Who and What Needs Testing?
The Electricity at Work Regulations state that all electrical systems and equipment used in the working environment should be in a safe condition. Every electrical installation deteriorates with age and use. It is therefore important that the safety of the user(s) is not put at risk. This is done by means of a Periodic Test.
How Often Should Tests Be Done?
The interval between periodic inspection and testing depends on a number of factors such as the type of premises, normal life expectancy of the installation and changed usage of the premises.
Domestic properties should be tested every change of occupancy or 10 years, whilst a commercial property is every change of occupancy or 5 years.
The Frequency of Testing table gives recommendations for the maximum initial interval between initial verification and the 1st periodic inspection.
