PORTABLE APPLIANCE TESTING (PAT Testing) Portable Appliance Inspection & Testing (PAT Testing) is an important Health & Safety aspect. We are able to offer a simple and cost effective solution to ensure that all companies and organisations comply with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, the Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations, your Insurance Company, Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and to minimise the risk of injury and fire to employees. All work is carried out to standards set out in the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) Code of Practice. We are able to offer this service outside of normal working hours (such as weekends and evenings) keeping disruption to a minimum. What Needs Testing? Any equipment that has a lead and a plug such as: PC, Printer, Fax Machine, Photocopier, Fan, Lamp, Toaster, Fridge, Microwave, Kettle, Vacuum Cleaner, Hair Dryers, Drills, Washing Machines etc How is Testing Done? Testing is done by a Formal Visual Inspection and Electrical Testing: Visual Inspections: The majority of faults are picked up by simply inspecting the appliance. The cable will be inspected for cuts, fraying and damage, whether there are taped joints and whether it is secure where it enters the plug. The plug will be inspected to ensure it has the correct fuse fitted, no cracks in the casing, the cord grip is effective and that the cable terminations are secure. Electrical Testing: All our electrical testing is conducted using up-to-date, calibrated equipment and the latest software packages to produce reports. Frequency of Testing The interval between periodic inspection and testing depends on a number of factors such as the type of premises. Results All items are marked with a Pass (or Fail) label All items are also summarised on a front sheet for ease of use - which may be used as an 'asset list' for insurance purposes.
